Retrospective analysis reveals significant A1C and BMI improvements by sociodemographic factors in T2DM patients using specific therapies.
Introduction and Objective: The use of Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) therapies have demonstrated effectiveness in improving BMI and A1C outcomes. We assessed A1c and BMI patterns by social demographic characteristics for patients with T2DM and obesity after initiating GLP-1 RAs and SGLT-2 treatment. Methods: A retrospective analysis of A1C and BMI rates among patients with T2DM and obesity using GLP-1 RA and SGLT2i at a large integrated health care system in Northern California between 2022 and 2025 was conducted. Outcomes were assessed by medication exposure within 6 months of prescription initiation. Results: 9702 patients had A1C and 10749 had both BMI values six months post GLP-1 RA and SGLT-2 Six Months initiation. Patients who started a had a GLP-1 RA 1 point, and 1.1 reduction in A1c and BMI, respectively. American Indian/Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and younger adults observed the higher A1c change and BMI loss. Conclusion: Real-world GLP-1 receptor agonist use was associated with clinically meaningful improvements in BMI and A1C. Disclosure R. Lane: None. S. Robinson: Research Support; Current; Lilly. K.
