Demonstrates improved healthcare access in rural India, suggesting AI can bridge language gaps.
Access to quality healthcare remains a critical challenge for rural India's 900 million people, exacerbated by language diversity, low digital literacy, and a severe shortage of medical professionals in remote areas. We present VaaniCare, a voice-first multilingual healthcare AI assistant supporting Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and English. VaaniCare integrates Groq Whisper for speech recognition, a fine-tuned XLM-RoBERTa model for four-level medical triage classification, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) over 19 curated medical documents, and a three-layer safety guardrail system. The system achieves sub-2-second end-to-end latency and delivers hallucination-reduced, contextually grounded medical guidance in the user's native language.
