Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising anodes for sodium-ion batteries due to tunable porosity, high surface area, and adjustable chemistry. This review systematically summarizes the latest advancements, key challenges, and future directions in this field. Heteroatom doping, compositing with graphene or carbon nanotubes, and constructing yolk-shell or nanosheet architectures enhance electronic transport, mitigate expansion, and improve cycling stability. However, low conductivity and volume fluctuations still limit practical use. Future research should prioritize computational guided design, interfacial and electrolyte engineering, volumetric energy density, standardized testing protocols, and sustainable synthesis to transition MOF anodes from laboratory breakthroughs to practical energy storage applications.
