Reports the first description and photographs of Chaetodiadema granulatum in Amami-Oshima Island, expanding its distribution range.
Chaetodiadema granulatum Mortensen, 1903 has been reported from a wide range, including the Malay Archipelago, the Indian Ocean, and the South China Sea. Although specimens of C. granulatum have been collected from Okinawa Island and deposited in the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of Natural History, no detailed descriptions or photographs of the specimens have been provided until now. In this study, we provide detailed descriptions and photographs based on the first specimen of C. granulatum collected from Amami-Oshima Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. This is the first report of the species from Amami-Oshima Island and also expands the distribution range of this species to the north.
