Landscape assessment identifies industry priorities in robotics and AI, highlighting governance challenges and opportunities.
This paper provides a landscape assessment of governability across the autonomous systems industry in 2026. The analysis reviews publicly observable positioning, research priorities, technology roadmaps, and communication themes across leading organizations active in robotics, Physical AI, autonomous systems, industrial automation, digital twins, and frontier artificial intelligence. Organizations examined include NVIDIA, Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic, Tesla, Figure, Physical Intelligence, Agility Robotics, Sanctuary AI, Boston Dynamics, Siemens, Dassault Systèmes, Hexagon, and NEURA Robotics. The assessment identifies a strong industry-wide emphasis on capability development, foundation models, world models, simulation, embodied intelligence, deployment, and scaling. In contrast, governability-related concepts such as runtime governability, operational legitimacy, certification continuity, governance infrastructure, and ecosystem-scale controllability appear comparatively rare as publicly communicated strategic categories. The paper introduces the concept of the Governability Landscape and documents the publicly observable state of industry priorities as of June 2026. Rather than proposing a new technical architecture, the paper serves as a historical baseline intended to support future research on governability, autonomous systems assurance, runtime governance, and governance infrastructure.
