Introduction: Tobacco use is characterized by high usage of smoking and smokeless tobacco use, accounting for a noticeable proportion. The objective of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey was to monitor tobacco use and tobacco control indicators in developing countries that have the highest number of adult smokers. In the context of such a high burden of tobacco use, this study is to assess the socio-economic, demographic data that correlates to the use of smokeless tobacco, their attempts to quit and they are quitting follow-up. The aim of this study is to assess the use and prevalence of smokeless tobacco among Chennai population and to create awareness. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study with 100 participants as the sample size was conducted. A self-structured questionnaire was distributed among the population through google forms and the data were collected and analysed with SPSS software. Comparison between the tobacco users was done by Chi-square test with the significance p0.05. The results were mostly statistically significant. Results and Discussion: Tobacco use was higher among males of adolescent age groups. The most used form of smokeless tobacco was chewing. Also, the respondents were aware of the health hazards of tobacco such as oral cancer, heart diseases, etc., On assessing the reason to quit, the majority of respondents reasoned the awareness programs on adverse health effects of tobacco use and they had undergone counselling to quit.Conclusions: This study concludes that the considered population is aware of the health hazards and the importance to quit.
