Value-based analysis suggests ethical AI is essential for trust and sustainability in digital economies.
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into digital economic systems represents one of the most transformative shifts in the modern global economy. AI technologies underpin innovations across sectors such as fintech, e-commerce, digital healthcare, and smart governance. According to a 2023 report by McKinsey, AI could contribute up to $4.4 trillion annually to the global economy. However, the rapid deployment of AI also raises urgent ethical concerns including algorithmic bias, opacity in decision-making, erosion of privacy, and accountability gaps. As of 2022, over 160 sets of ethical AI guidelines have been published globally, highlighting the growing consensus on the need for value-based AI integration. Yet, a significant implementation gap persists. This paper offers a comprehensive value-based analysis of how ethical AI can be meaningfully integrated into digital economic frameworks. It reviews existing ethical principles, examines the structural components of digital economies, and analyzes real-world case studies such as the EU AI Act and corporate ethics boards. Using thematic analysis and expert interviews, the paper proposes a five-pillar framework emphasizing value alignment, stakeholder inclusivity, regulatory integration, transparency mechanisms, and sustainability. The goal is to bridge the divide between technological advancement and societal well-being. Ultimately, ethical AI is not just a normative concern but a practical necessity to ensure trust, inclusivity, and long-term sustainability in the digital economy.
