Investigates exercise persistence in students using AI devices, indicating vital connections among motivation, enjoyment, and commitment.
OBJECTIVE: This study investigates how the use motivations of AI health monitoring devices influence exercise persistence in physical education students, focusing on the mediating role of exercise enjoyment and exercise commitment. METHOD: The researchers conducted a survey among 764 Chinese university students using the Motivation for Use Scale, the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale, the Exercise Commitment Scale, and the Physical Exercise Adherence Scale. The proposed chain mediation model was subsequently tested and validated. RESULTS: (1) The use motivations of AI health monitoring devices show a significant positive association with exercise persistence. (2) Exercise enjoyment and exercise commitment demonstrate both independent and sequential mediation effects in the model, with the mediation effect of exercise commitment being relatively stronger. CONCLUSION: The study identifies important associations among use motivations, exercise enjoyment, exercise commitment, and exercise persistence, offering useful insights for future practices and research aimed at supporting exercise-related behaviors among physical education students.
