Examines AI tools' effects on English language skills in higher education, suggesting careful integration is vital.
This paper examines how AI-powered tools—ChatGPT, Grammarly, Duolingo, and QuillBot—are influencing English language acquisition among undergraduate and postgraduate students in the colleges of Nanded City, a semi-urban educational hub in Maharashtra's Marathwada region. Drawing on structured questionnaire responses from 100 students, the study explores usage patterns, self-perceived skill improvements, motivational shifts, and challenges associated with tool dependency. Findings indicate that AI tools markedly improve writing accuracy and grammar comprehension but show limited impact on spoken fluency. The paper argues that thoughtful, faculty-guided AI integration can supplement language learning meaningfully, while uncritical use risks cultivating surface-level proficiency. Practical recommendations for educators and policymakers conclude the discussion.
