Between the 19th and 21st of February 2024, Oxford Archaeology undertook informative trial trenching on land off Sutton Road, Walpole Cross Keys in Norfolk. The work was carried out as part of a planning condition in advance of a residential development. A total of nine trenches were excavated. The trenches revealed no archaeological features or deposits. The site was possibly covered by saltmarsh until the medieval period and subsequent to this was probably either wooded or used exclusively for agricultural purposes.
