Key result
High-stable cardiovascular health before age 50 linked to ~58% lower incident CVD risk.
Why the study?
The relationship between distinct cardiovascular health trajectories before age 50 and subsequent CVD risk, mortality, and CVD-free survival in a Chinese population was unclear from a PPPM perspective.
Does a high-stable cardiovascular health trajectory before age 50 reduce incident cardiovascular disease and mortality compared to a moderate-stable trajectory in a Chinese cohort?
Cohort (n=39,305)
Does a high-stable cardiovascular health trajectory before age 50 reduce incident cardiovascular disease and mortality compared to a moderate-stable trajectory in a Chinese cohort?
Hazard Ratio: 0.42 (95% CI 0.3–0.58)
Sustained or improving cardiovascular health trajectories before age 50, as measured by Life's Essential 8, predict lower subsequent CVD risk and longer CVD-free survival.

Liu et al. (2026) conducted a cohort in Cardiovascular disease prevention (n=39,305). High-stable cardiovascular health trajectory vs. Moderate-stable trajectory was evaluated on Incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) (HR 0.42, 95% CI 0.30-0.58). A high-stable cardiovascular health trajectory before age 50 was associated with a lower risk of incident CVD compared with a moderate-stable trajectory (HR 0.42; 95% CI 0.30-0.58).
