Systematic literature review maps ISD practices to cultural dynamics, indicating pathways for design-led organizational transformation.
The evolution of design practices enables organizations to innovate across technological, social, and sustainability dimensions, yet cultural challenges can limit their potential. From a strategic design perspective, understanding cultural dynamics is essential to embed de-sign meaningfully within organizational processes. To build this foundation, we conducted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on Information Systems Development (ISD) to investigate how practices interact with culture, a necessary step toward exploring how Design, within a Practice-Centered perspective, can operate in this context. The study addresses which ISD practices embed design activities and their relationship with organizational culture. Based on the analysis, we developed a conceptual mapping that positions practices along two axes: cultural influence and impact on organizational culture, the latter reflecting their transformative potential. The mapping highlights how design practices can evolve from general or external activities toward becoming culturally embedded and transformative. The findings provide a conceptual and methodological basis for future research, supporting the development of design-led change strategies for organizational transformation and sus-tained adaptability.
