Review highlights bioinformatics tools and databases for molecular breeding applications in horticultural plants.
Bioinformatics technology is a new approach used in molecular breeding of horticultural plants. Many databases and tools of bioinformatics, such as GenBank, EMBL, DDBJ, and SWISSPROT, are important resources for molecular breeding research. Horticultural researchers often use these resources to predict the function of sequences of new nucleic acids or proteins, to produce phylogenetic trees, and to clone new genes. The paper reviews the main bioinformatics resources, including the important databases and frequently used service systems, and their applications in molecular breeding of horticultural plants.
