Literature review examines effectiveness of genetic tests in prenatal settings, highlighting ethical concerns.
The aim of the present study was to conduct a literature review investigating the benefits and effectiveness of non-invasive prenatal (NIPT) and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), in order to determine the extent to which they already enjoy widespread application. Through the review of the sources, it was found that both methods are highly effective, however, they are associated with significant bioethical implications that need to be determined by a strong legislative framework before their widespread application. It is important to ensure that they are used only for safety and the reduction of hereditary diseases and not for purposes such as eugenics and the selection of embryo external characteristics, but also that they are equally accessible to the entire population.
