Review summarizes enzyme functions in modulating gene expression and stress responses in plants.
The nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidative enzymes, homologues of the mammal gp91phox enzymes in neutrophils, in the plasma membrane of plant cells modulate gene expression and regulate cellular metabolites of plants by substantive production of active oxygen species (AOS) under abiotic and biotic stresses. Consequently, plants can rapidly respond to stresses and adapt to environmental changes. The enzymes are also important in the regulation of plant growth and development. In present paper recent research progress about the structure and function of the NADPH oxidative enzymes are reviewed and regulation of enzyme activity is discussed also.
