Evaluates the formulation and effectiveness of extended-release tablets using different polymers, highlighting their impact on drug release.
ABSTRACTThe purpose of the present studies was to develop and characterize extended release tablets of Carbamazepine, anantiepileptic drug. Various formulations were developed by altering polymer concentration to achieve the desiredrelease profile. The prepared tablets were evaluated for pre-compression parameters including bulk density, tappeddensity, angle of repose, and post-compression parameters such as hardness, friability, weight variation, drugcontent, and thickness. Extended-release tablets were formulated using hydrophilic matrix-forming polymers suchas Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC) of varying viscosity grades. The formulations were prepared by directcompression optimized by varying polymer concentration and excipient ratios. In the formulation, the active drugwas taken 100 mg in every formulation tragacanth and chitosan along with HPMC is the polymers were used asrate retarding agents in six batches (F-1 to F6) Primarily formulations and tragacanth and chitosan (15, 20 25 mg)in the formulations from F-4 to F-6: The powder blend was evaluated for bulk density tapped density, Carr’sindex, Hausner's ratio, angle of repose. The tablets were subjected to thickness, weight variation, hardness, friability and in vitro dissolution studies. The powder blend showed satisfactory flow properties, compressibilityand drug content. The in vitro dissolution study was claimed using USP Apparatus-II (Rotating paddle methodapparatus) for 1 to 18 hours in 900 ml of buffer solution PH6.8 Among these six formulations ER activitiesstudied.
