A transmissive frequency-reconfigurable cross-pola- rization conversion surface is presented. First, two static cross-polarization conversion unit cells are proposed. Results indicate that they are both capable of transforming incoming linearly polarized waves into their cross-polarized counterparts effectively, but at different operating frequencies. Second, PIN diodes are employed to construct an active unit cell, imitating the behavior of each static unit cell, as the PIN diodes are on or off , respectively. Finally, a prototype containing 10 × 10 unit cells is designed, manufactured, and measured. Measurements show that with the PIN diodes in off or on state, a switchable cross-polarization converting band around 4.17 and 6.73 GHz is achieved, validating the proposed concept.
