Demonstrates an integrated management system for underground infrastructure, suggesting enhanced efficiency.
The MTRL is operated by swisstopo, which is responsible for ensuring underground safety. Swisstopo provides support for experiments conducted by partners and also leads its own experiments. Furthermore, swisstopo facilitates communication with partners and communication with authorities, research institutes, industry, and the public. To ensure that these tasks can be carried out more efficiently in the future, the existing structural laboratory infrastructure and the surrounding geology need to be documented in a sustainable manner. The BIM (Building Information Modelling) method offers an advanced option to digitally record, describe visualize and analyse both the geometries and the properties of installed objects such as tunnel support structures, drainage, electrical and communication lines, boreholes, etc. In 2022 the BIM Mont Terri (BIM-MT) project was launched with the objective of developing a GeoBIM web platform to support swisstopo in carrying out its tasks using the BIM method. GeoBIM refers to the integration of geospatial information (GIS) and Building Information Modeling (BIM), enabling the combination of spatial context and object-based infrastructure data for integrated analysis, visualization and decision-making.
