Examines trade impact on foreign exchange reserves in India, suggesting policy adjustments are needed.
This study examines the relationship between India’s international trade and foreign exchange reserves over time. It highlights that exports and imports have both increased significantly, reflecting greater global integration. Despite persistent trade deficits, foreign exchange reserves have grown, aided by export earnings. Strong positive correlations exist between exports, imports, and reserves, with exports having a significant positive influence on reserve levels. Regression analysis confirms that exports and imports jointly impact reserve accumulation. The findings emphasize the importance of export promotion and effective trade management for macroeconomic stability. Policymakers should focus on enhancing export competitiveness while balancing import growth. The study underscores the crucial role of trade dynamics in strengthening India’s external financial position, guiding future economic strategies. Limitations include the exclusion of other macroeconomic factors, suggesting avenues for further research.
