Archaeological watching brief uncovers minimal findings while excavating a trench for electrical cables.
Archaeological watching brief at Learmonth Garden, Linlithgow, West Lothian. On 5th April 2016 an archaeological Watching Brief was carried out at Learmonth Gardens, Linlithgow. A small trench (43. 40m long, 0.40m wide and ranging in depth from 0.50m - 0.60m) was excavated along the western side of the park path before cutting across the path and terminating in front of a Dovecot. The trench was devoid of any archaeological features except for the path and no samples were taken. A single sherd of pottery was recovered and analysed, and found to be post medieval. The reason for the trench was to lay electrical cables into the ground for lighting purposes.
