Evaluates contraceptive method changes post-abortion ban in Indiana, suggesting broader implications for access.
We evaluated the impact of Indiana's abortion ban on Indiana's statewide contraceptive access initiative (PATH4YOU). We analyzed data from 3012 participants between September 2021–2025 (1073 pre-ban; 1939 post-ban), including visit type, contraception method selected, and rural-urban commuting area (RUCA) code. There was no difference in overall long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) use rates (49% pre-ban vs 48% post-ban, p = 0.55 ), but LARC use increased significantly in mixed RUCA codes (34% to 44%, p = 0.04 ). Telehealth utilization and participation from mixed and rural communities also increased post-ban, suggesting structural barriers influence contraceptive behavior beyond abortion policy.
