This honors thesis explores the evolving meaning of “home” through a deeply personal and coming of age narrative shaped by transition, loss, and growth. Beginning with the narrator’s family’s sudden move from North Carolina to Colorado, this piece details four years of self-discovery during the narrator’s time at UNC Chapel Hill. Through experiences of homesickness, nostalgia, grief, and humor, the understanding of belonging is examined and challenged through constant states of instability and growing independence. This thesis is representative of the journey one takes to realize that home is not singular or static, but is continuously shaped by the people and experiences we carry with us.
