Archaeological evaluation reveals minimal activity in Yate, suggesting low historical significance.
Red River Archaeology Ltd. was commissioned by Redrow Homes Ltd to undertake a programme of archaeological evaluation trenching on land north of Iron Acton Way, and east of Dyer's Lane, Yate, South Gloucestershire (ST 69582 83532) No significant archaeological remains were encountered The majority of the features postulated by the geophysical survey were seen to be variations in the natural geological substrate, bioturbation, or modern drainage features. A small quantity of Post-medieval pottery sherds, glass and iron slag were recovered from the topsoil hinting at low levels of activity in the area during this period. There was limited evidence for tree clearance thought to have taken place in the area prior to it becoming agricultural land.
