Global Island Feminisms Symposium examines kinship and belonging in island cultures, fostering collaboration among researchers and artists.
The Global Island Feminisms Symposium took place in Aarhus from 14–16 August 2025. It emerged from a re-search project on culture and kinship in the Faroe Islands (Gendered Island Futures), placed at the Department of Anthropology at the University of Aarhus. The symposium invited researchers and artists working in the Faroe Islands, as well as international researchers working in the Americas, the Arctic, Europe and Oceania, to engage in a joint interdisciplinary examination of island feminisms as an internationally emerging field. Anchored by the key concepts of »belonging« and »conviviality«, participants discussed works-in-progress in small-scale feedback ses-sions. Collective activities, such as artistic interventions and ocean swimming, fostered new ways of coming to-gether as scholars.
