Investigates shared solutions to enhance lung health in populations, indicating significant benefits for proactive care.
Extract Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) including asthma, COPD and post-tuberculosis lung disease affect millions of people across the world. There is a rising burden, and substantial unmet need such that current models of care are simultaneously both unsustainable and inadequate. As set out in the World Health Assembly Lung Health resolution, major challenges facing respiratory health systems include under- and late diagnosis, a reactive focus on acute care rather than proactive chronic disease management, a high incidence of potentially avoidable emergency admissions and readmissions, and insufficient support for primary care which has the greatest potential to deliver proactive health improvement at the population level [1].
