abstract: This article uses newly declassified documents obtained from the George W. Bush Presidential Library to shed light on the administration's efforts to enlist Hollywood in its war on terror campaign. It begins by briefly outlining the history of US government-media collaboration before turning its attention to what the documents reveal about the Bush administration's motives and strategies for mobilizing the entertainment industries. The analysis tracks the effects of the campaign in terms of generated media products, pushback from the industry, and evidence of its long-term influence on American media.
