This policy paper, intiated by the Horizon Europe GIANT LEAPS project (grant no. 101059632), aims to raise awareness of the safe-by-design approach to prevent and control potential food safety issues related to the dietary shift from animal-based to alternative proteins. It serves as a call for risk assessors and risk managers from both government and companies as well as scientists to accelerate and promote this dietary transition, while maintaining the safety of the diet, taking a safe-by designapproach.
