Magnetic carbon nanotubes show structural and functional promise as multifunctional theranostic platforms for cancer treatment.
Why the study?
Targeted drug delivery is a promising application in oncology, and the potential use of magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes as carriers for magnetically guided doxorubicin delivery required evaluation.
Magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes show conceptual promise as multifunctional theranostic platforms for targeted doxorubicin delivery and hyperthermia-assisted cancer treatment.
Should not change oncology practice; leaves open translation of magnetic MWCNT doxorubicin delivery.
Targeted drug delivery remains one of the most promising applications of multifunctional nanomaterials in oncology. Carbon nanotubes provide unique opportunities for combining drug transport, magnetic targeting, and localized therapeutic action within a single nanoplatform. Building upon previously reported structural, magnetic, thermal, and hyperthermia investigations of magnetic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), the present work evaluates their potential use as carriers for magnetically guided doxorubicin delivery. The analysis focuses on the physicochemical properties required for efficient drug loading, transport, magnetic localization, and controlled release. The results indicate that magnetic carbon nanotube systems possess the structural and functional characteristics necessary for future development as multifunctional theranostic platforms integrating drug delivery, magnetic targeting, and hyperthermia-assisted cancer treatment.
