Design Research reveals user needs and enhances cultural depth in Mount Wutai lacquer trays, suggesting pathways for similar products.
This study addresses the lack of cultural depth and regional identity in Mount Wutai's cultural and creative products. Using cultural hierarchy theory, it deconstructs Mount Wutai's cultural resources into three layers: material, behavioral, and spiritual. User needs for lacquer ceremonial trays were analyzed via questionnaire survey. A three-tier design principle—craftsmanship inheritance, functional adaptation, and emotional resonance—was established. Design practice encompassed four dimensions: motif extraction, color system construction, functional form adaptation, and emotional experience design, yielding a series of five lacquer ceremonial trays. Results show that cultural hierarchy theory provides a systematic analytical tool for regional cultural design, effectively enhancing cultural depth and user experience. This study offers a reference for similar regional cultural and creative product development.
