Interdisciplinary analysis reveals the role of constraints in creating order across diverse systems, implying practical applications.
Since the 16th century, scientific discoveries have mostly existed as discrete insights lacking a unified theoretical framework. Taking constraint as the core clue, this paper explores its pivotal role in constructing unified order in the fields of matter, life, consciousness and civilization. By limiting the degrees of freedom of a system and narrowing the possibility space of its evolution, constraint enhances the predictability of the system. Adopting an interdisciplinary case analysis method, this paper verifies the universality of this mechanism in material systems, life systems, cognitive systems and human civilization systems, and proposes the basic theory of "constraint creates order". Meanwhile, this paper demonstrates that the absence of constraints will lead to the risk of system disorder, while excessive constraints will result in system rigidity. The key to pursuing order lies in imposing matched constraints according to system goals to achieve "benign determinacy". This study breaks disciplinary barriers, constructs a unified scientific framework for cross-level systems, and provides a theoretical basis for practical issues such as climate change, ecological protection, civilization development and scientific and technological innovation. The core framework of the theory has been established, and relevant mathematical models and formulas will be supplemented in the future to improve the theoretical system.
