Perspective explores how dermatologists can foster resilience and acceptance in skin health, indicating a shift in clinical outcomes.
This perspective explores the evolving role of dermatologists in shaping perceptions of normality, intervention, and acceptance in skin health and disease. We discuss how social media, aesthetic medicine, financial incentives, and increasingly intervention-focused treatment cultures may contribute to the overmedicalisation of visible skin difference, and argue that acceptance and body neutrality may represent valid clinical outcomes in selected cases. We propose that dermatologists have an important role in supporting resilience, ethical practice, and more sustainable ways of relating to the skin.
