Review highlights development of intermetallic Heusler alloys for catalysis in various chemical processes, suggesting future directions.
Heusler alloys are the ternary or multicomponent intermetallic compounds characterized by specified crystal structures, tunable electronic configurations, and diverse physical properties. The intermetallic Heusler alloys have emerged as promising candidates for chemical and electrochemical catalysis in recent years. Herein, this review provides a comprehensive overview of recent development of intermetallic Heusler alloys as catalytic materials, with a focus on their preparation methods and catalytic applications in hydrogenation and dehydrogenation conversion, water splitting, field-assisted catalysis, etc. The research on Heusler alloy catalysts is in the preliminary exploration stage while is experiencing rapid development. This review also outlines the future prospects of these novel materials and their potential applications.
