Demonstrates cost-effective ambipolar logic circuits using specific polymers, suggesting simpler fabrication methods.
Ambipolar organic electrochemical transistors offer a pathway to reduce the fabrication complexity and cost associated with complementary-like circuits. This work demonstrates ambipolar OECTs based on two conjugated polymers, PTh-DPP-2Tz and PTz-DPP-2Tz, both of which support dual-mode ( p -type and n -type) operation in aqueous electrolytes, thereby expanding the material set for ambipolar OECTs. Using these single-component semiconductors, high-gain complementary logic gates were realized, and both NAND and NOR logic circuits were successfully fabricated within a unified complementary architecture. This study provides a simplified, cost-effective approach to implementing complementary-like logic functions using ambipolar OECT technology.
