Randomized trial investigates lymphosarcoma transmission from cattle to sheep, suggesting significant health risks for sheep.
Summary Of 13 inoculated sheep, 11 became infected as neonates with the C-type bovine virus produced by cultured lymphocytes from an adult-type bovine lymphosarcoma. Five sheep died from leukemia and lymphosarcoma in 241/2-271/2 months. In 1 sheep the skin was affected, and another had fibroblastoma in lymphosarcomatous thymic tissue. Only 1 of 16 sheep, which as neonates had received tumor cells from juvenile bovine lymphosarcoma, developed C-type virus infection.
