Demonstrates enhanced SO2 capture in aluminum-based MOFs, indicating a green synthesis advantage.
The severe environmental impact of SO 2 in fossil fuel combustion flue gas necessitates the development of crucial adsorption techniques for its capture, especially at trace concentrations. Herein, we systematically investigate the influence of NH 2 and CH 3 functional groups in microporous Al(III)‐based metal–organic framework (MOF) (CAU‐10) on SO 2 capture performance. The results demonstrate that CAU‐10‐NH 2 exhibits an SO 2 adsorption capacity of 40.32 cm 3 /g at 1 kPa and 69.44 cm 3 /g at 10 kPa, outperforming most reported MOFs under comparable conditions. Owing to its relatively low SO 2 adsorption enthalpy (30 kJ/mol), CAU‐10‐NH 2 allows facile desorption and efficient regeneration. Furthermore, a green, aqueous‐based synthesis strategy was developed for the scalable production of CAU‐10‐NH 2 , enabling kilogram‐scale synthesis via a streamlined one‐pot process. The outstanding SO 2 adsorption and selectivity, together with a scalable, cost‐effective, and environmentally benign synthesis, render CAU‐10‐NH 2 a promising candidate for practical SO 2 capture.
