Descriptive report details a new application of a catheter to improve thrombectomy outcomes in acute pulmonary embolism.
The dedicated radial ventriculography pigtail catheter was originally engineered to facilitate left ventriculography through the radial arterial approach by incorporating a multi-angulated design optimized for rapid aortic valve traversal. This report describes a novel, descriptive application of this catheter for selective engagement of the left and right pulmonary arteries during percutaneous thrombectomy in acute pulmonary embolism. The catheter's angulation, shaft support, and torque characteristics enable simplified navigation of the right ventricular outflow tract and pulmonary artery bifurcation. This report outlines the rationale, technical approach, and early procedural observations supporting this technique.
