The isomer shift S and quadrupole splitting {Δ} of the 35.5-keV ¹²⁵Te level in MTe₂ (M=Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Co, and Ni) were measured at 80 K. MTe₂ with pyrite- and marcasite-type structures exhibit a linear relationship between S and {Δ}, while those with CdI₂-type structures show nearly vanishing {Δ}. Electronic populations of the 5s5p valence states of Te were approximately determined.
