This study has developed a method to estimate the stress distribution at the adhesive edge by applying an inverse analysis to deformed shapes of adherends. The deformed shape of the adherend is measured using strain sensors and laser displacement meters, and the stress distribution at the adhesive edge was estimated by the inverse analysis of the measured deformed shape. The Tikhonov regularization parameter is found to be optimal when the sum of the estimated interfacial stresses is close to the actual load value at delamination. Comparison with the results of the direct analysis using the conventional finite element method confirmed the validity of the method., as the stress singularity index and intensity of singular stress field of the stress distribution showed good estimation results.
