Objectives In response to the globalization and the expansion of interdisciplinary majors in Korean universities, English extracurricular programs have become increasingly relevant. Accordingly, this study aimed to explore stu dents’ needs regarding English extracurricular programs and to support their effective development and implementation. Methods A survey was conducted with 1,188 university students to examine their needs, preferences, and ex pectations related to English extracurricular programs. Results Among various types of English extracurricular programs, the class that students most preferred to par ticipate in was TOEIC. A significant number of students expressed interest in official English proficiency tests such as TOEIC and TOEFL for graduation requirements and future career preparation. In addition, student responses in dicated a strong desire to improve their speaking skills and global competence through classes that emphasize au thentic language use and real-life communication. Conclusions To sum up students’ responses to the questionnaire, the results suggest that students seek English extracurricular programs that are practically useful for enhancing their language skills and reflect their diverse and individualized needs.
