Demonstrates effective defect identification in optical fiber coils, suggesting improvement in coil technology.
The digital model of a guided optical fiber coil is widely accepted as the foundational basis for research and development, simulation analysis, testing, and validation related to coil technology. Driven by this approach, this paper introduces a precise modeling method for guided optical fiber coils incorporating defects. Initially, based on the fiber winding characteristics, the developed method proposes calculation techniques for determining the fiber winding center coordinates, computing fiber-diameter variation, updating the winding center coordinates based on this variation, and establishing criteria for defect identification. Subsequently, the structure of the base cylinder assembly is addressed, and modeling approaches are detailed for its constituent components: the base cylinder, base cylinder seat, adjustment layer, and spool sleeve assembly. Furthermore, the implementation logic for creating each layer model and assembling the complete machine model is also described. Finally, a precise modeling system was constructed according to this methodology. The modeling outcomes and winding defects generated by the system are demonstrated and compared, verifying that the proposed method effectively characterizes all three typical defect types.
