Case report shows resolution of pulsatile tinnitus after surgical intervention for sinus dehiscence.
Tinnitus is a common otological condition but pulsatile tinnitus is uncommon. Pulsatile tinnitus has psychological impact on patient and hampering the quality of life. Although there are several etiologies for pulsatile tinnitus, sigmoid sinus dehiscence is uncommon in routine clinical practice. Sigmoid sinus dehiscence causing pulsatile tinnitus is often overlooked by clinicians. Patient with pulsatile tinnitus can be evaluated to rule out vascular malformation before any intervention. Imaging like magnetic resonance of imaging and high-resolution computed tomography scan of the temporal bone is done for confirmation of the diagnosis of sigmoid sinus dehiscence. Pulsatile tinnitus warrants evaluation for vascular causes. Here, we presented a case with left side pulsatile tinnitus secondary to left dehiscent sigmoid sinus. The symptoms of the patient were completely resolved after resurfacing the dehiscence over sigmoid sinus after performing cortical mastoidectomy.
