Abstract One quickly developing area is the use of polymers to administer medications and other compounds in a regulated, long-term manner. The applications of these polymeric structures and their release mechanisms are the main subjects of this review. Clinical, medicinal, biological, agricultural, environmental, and domestic usage are a few examples of applications. The following release mechanisms are taken into consideration: swelling, chemical (biocrosion and pendent chain), diffusive (reservoirs and matrices), and magnetic regulation of drug release from polymers. The benefits and drawbacks of controlled-release technology are examined, along with methods for creating and evaluating efficient polymeric delivery systems.
