Case report highlights the role of imaging in diagnosing eosinophilic fasciitis, indicating its importance in managing rare inflammatory conditions.
A 55-year-old woman presented with progressive sclerotic and tender edema of the trunk, arms, and legs evolving over 5 months. 18 F-FDG PET/CT showed intense uptake in the peri-muscular fascia, matching MRI findings of fascial gadolinium contrast enhancement. Muscle biopsy confirmed eosinophilic fasciitis. This rare disorder involves eosinophilic inflammation and fibrosis of the fascia, with edema evolving into induration that usually spares the hands and face. 18 F-FDG PET/CT is a valuable imaging tool for diagnosis and to assess the extent of the disease, highlighting active inflammation and guiding biopsy.
