Conference paper examines ritualized expressions in Spanish textbooks and compares human and AI annotation reliability.
This conference paper presents a multimodal corpus study of ritualized expressions in Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) textbooks. The study examines greetings, farewells, interjections, vocatives, politeness formulae and profanities through pragmatic annotation based on situational traits. It also evaluates the reliability of Large Language Models as annotators and compares automatic annotation with human annotation. Presented at the II International Conference of Emerging Researchers in Philosophy and Language Sciences (PhiLanSci UAM 2026), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
