Novel examines animal liberation and the complex relationship between psychic experiences and material realities in sheep.
Sheep Machine is a novel about sheep. The text is broken into three discrete sections, the first of which is interrupted sequentially by imaginations of extra-narrative pastures. The latter two attempt to reckon with the consequences of these breakdowns between the material location of the pasture and the psychic plane on which Sybil, the novel’s primary character, is living, as she returns to the circumstances which initially produced her. Though this text is about animals, and takes the project of animal liberation seriously, it is also interested in a more hybrid understanding of difference between and within species, denaturalized from human value systems by its by transposition into a distinctly animal plane.
