This survey maps computational creativity tools, highlighting integration gaps in creative-process functions.
We survey the landscape of computational creativity tools across four layers — structured methods, B2B software, academic instruments, and AI-assisted systems — and five creative-process functions: generation, prediction, evaluation, navigation, and contextualisation. Mapping 46 tools against this framework reveals a consistent integration gap: no single layer covers all five functions in a coherent end-to-end workflow. AI-assisted tools come closest in breadth but remain weakest on evaluation and contextualisation. We argue that closing this gap requires not just better individual tools, but a principled account of which functions each layer is structurally equipped to serve — and where cross-layer integration is both feasible and necessary.
