This framework evaluates speculative bubbles and market corrections using behavioral finance insights, highlighting implications for forecasting.
This paper introduces and extends the Bubble Gum Theory (BGT) as a multi-dimensional macroeconomic framework for evaluating speculative asset bubbles, market corrections, and investor behavioral cycles. Building on the foundational BGT model, this extended edition incorporates four additional analytical dimensions — Colour (market transparency and information asymmetry), Density (capital structure and leverage), Type (asset class personality and risk profile), and Brand Reputation (institutional and peer credibility) — alongside three newly identified behavioral phases: the Stale Gum Phase (narrative exhaustion in mature assets), the Pain Chew (loss aversion and sunk cost persistence), and Premature Ejection (capitulation selling prior to value recovery). The paper further formalizes the Snapping Point (Sp) parameter using the variables of Structural Thickness, Additive Pressure Rate, and External Stress Coefficient, and validates the complete framework against three major historical market events. Information cascade theory and momentum trading dynamics are formally integrated into the Addictive Flavours phase to strengthen the mathematical grounding of the model. The BGT framework is proposed as both a practical macroeconomic forecasting tool and a pedagogical instrument for communicating speculative bubble dynamics to non-specialist audiences.
