This project introduces Safety-Gate Architecture, a proposed design paradigm for digital connection platforms that assesses behavioral indicators of emotional readiness before facilitating connection events. Current digital platforms are largely optimized for engagement frequency. Safety-Gate Architecture explores an alternative premise: that the quality and timing of connection may matter as much as, or more than, the quantity of connection itself. The framework draws on attachment theory, harm reduction principles, public health approaches to loneliness, and computational inference models to propose a readiness-aware approach to digital connection infrastructure. The paper presents the conceptual foundations of the framework, a case study implementation within the Wouch platform, and a proposed empirical research agenda utilizing validated instruments including the ECR-R, UCLA Loneliness Scale v3, and WEMWBS. This OSF project serves as an open repository for the conceptual paper, future research protocols, methodological documentation, study preregistrations, datasets (where ethically appropriate), replication efforts, and collaborative research initiatives. The framework has not yet undergone peer-reviewed empirical validation and is presented as a research hypothesis and design paradigm intended for scientific examination, critique, replication, and improvement. Researchers, institutions, and interdisciplinary collaborators interested in digital wellbeing, human-computer interaction, relationship science, attachment theory, loneliness, trust and safety, AI governance, and digital mental health infrastructure are invited to engage with, challenge, and help evaluate the framework.
