Caregiving burden refers to the stress experienced by family members who are engaged in caregiving activities. The burden can have profound influence on the physical and mental health of family caregivers and often persists even after their older relatives have been placed in institutional care. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Caregiving Burden Scale for Family Caregivers with Relatives in Nursing Homes (CBS‐FNH) among Chinese family caregivers. The CBS‐FNH was translated into Chinese using the back‐translation method. The Chinese version of the CBS‐FNH, along with criterion measures—including social support, quality of life, perceived stress, positive aspects of caregiving, and care recipient’s previous diagnosis of dementia—was administered to a sample of Chinese family caregivers ( n = 832). Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a strong fit with the original four‐factor structure. The Chinese version of the CBS‐FNH also demonstrated good internal consistency. Criterion validity was supported by the expected negative associations with caregivers’ quality of life and social support and positive associations with perceived stress and care recipient’s prior dementia diagnosis. Notably, positive aspects of caregiving were also positively associated with caregiver burden. Overall, the results suggest that the Chinese version of the CBS‐FNH can serve as a valid tool for assessing caregiving burden among Chinese family caregivers in institutional settings.
