Abstract A nutritional knowledge survey was administered to parents presenting to the New York University Pediatric Dental Clinic. The survey contained questions regarding parents’ knowledge of cariogenic foods and their children’s eating habits, among others. A dental record review, pertaining to the number of carious lesions and/or sound teeth, of the pediatric subject was then completed to record the caries status. There was a significant relationship between parents’ knowledge of consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages at mealtimes and their child’s caries score. The results highlight the need for more education for parents related to oral health and nutrition.
